HARRINGTON, DE – The 1st leg of Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund action for harness racing 3-year-olds continued Tuesday at Harrington Raceway with a pair of $20,000 divisions for pacing fillies.
The second split featured two of the top Delaware fillies from last season, Shabby Chic and Gaitway Gal (Delmarvalous), with the latter prevailing at 6-to-1 in 1:54.2. Gaitway Gal ($14, Pat Berry) challenged first-over boldly after heavily favored Shabby Chic set a pedestrian like pace of 29, 58.2 and 1:27.2.
Gaitway Gal began to edge clear near the top of the stretch and drew away for her 7th career win. Shabby Chic held second with Tahoe third.
Trained by Jeff Smith for the Gty Stable, the filly notched her second win of the season.
GAITWAY GAL REPLAY
There were no surprises in the initial split as Odds On Racing’s Odds On Surfer Gal (Badlands Hanover, $2.60, Corey Callahan) cruised to an easy win over Bank The Win and Bluffs Crush for trainer Tony Alagna in 1:55. The filly improved to 3-for-6 lifetime.
ODDS ON SURFER GAL REPLAY
In the overnight feature, the $20,000 Mares Open, James Magno and Joseph Fonte’s Incaseyoudidn’tknow (Always B Miki, $4.20, Jim Morand) notched her 4th straight win in 1:52.1 over Feeling Sweet and Pass Line Bluechip. The Les Givens-trainee sustained a big trip in which she wore down pacesetter Feeling Sweet first-over in achieving her 12th career win.
