George “ Ronnie” Roland Leager, 83 of Suddlersville, Md passed away last week.
Mr. Leager was born in Chestertown, Md on August 18, 1938. He parlayed his passion for farming and standardbred race horses. He purchased a farm to accommodate that passion for which he resided, with his family for 53 years.
Over the years, he raced on the Delaware and Maryland harness racing circuit. His pride and joy, pacer Slick Tony, became a fan favorite at Dover Downs, Harrington and Rosecroft race tracks.
Mr. Leager served in the National Guard for 9 years, was a member of the Farm Bureau, Holstein Associations and the US Trotting Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 3 sons George “Ricky”, Arthur and James Leager, his first wife, Jean Ann Miller, and 2 brothers, Clifton and Larry Leager.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Nola Leager of Suddlersville, MD one son Steven, 2 daughters, 5 sisters and 4 grandchildren.
