Northfield, Ohio — Harness racing amateur driver Don Sherman sent Heidi’s Heart to the lead from the four-
hole and had challenges every step of the way, but the veteran trotting mare rebuffed them all and hung on to win the $7,500 Great Lakes Amateur Drivers’ Association trot tonight (April 3) in 1:58.2 at MGM Northfield Park.
After Sherman made the front his trotting mare never had a breather, and she was challenged the entire mile by Emerald Chip (Lauren Harmon) who went an amazing trip while being on the limb.
They were one-two past the half in :59 and still side-by-side when they trotted by the three quarters in 1:28.3. At that point they were joined by Curlys Son (Marion Chupp) who trottedaround cover to join Heidi’s Heart at the top of the lane and the two were side by side when they headed for paydirt.
Despite being challenged every step of the mile the trotting mare was a nose better then Curlys Son when the finish line camera snapped. The margin of victory was just a nose but enough to garner first money. Third place went to Emerald Chip.
