Northfield, Ohio--Harness racing amateur driver Eddie Miller took no prisoners and went down the road from the pole position with Cowboy Country (Break The Bank K) to win the $8,000 Great Lakes Amateur Drivers Association trot in 1:57.3 Sunday (August 7) at Northfield Park.
Sent off as the odds-on favorite in the seven-horse field Cowboy Country paid $2.80 for the win.
When the starter turned the field loose Miller hustled the gelding to the lead and they had command before the quarter mile timer flashed :28.2. Once on top Cowboy Country cruised by the halfway point in :59.3 with Fulton’s Fury (Don Sherman) snuggled in second position.
Up the backside the order remained the same as Lauren Harmon moved Emerald Chip off the pylons and out to challenge. That challenge was short-lived as Cowboy Country was still strong when he trotted by the three-quarters in 1:29.1.
From there the race was for second money as Cowboy Country kicked in a :28.2 final stanza and was all alone at the wire in the 1:57.3 mile. Fulton’s Fury finished second 2-1/2 lengths behind the winner. Justice Reigns finished third for Melvin Miller.
