Goldberg strikes gold in Open Handicap

Goldberg strikes gold and takes the harness racing $20,000 Open Handicap Pace at Dover Downs on Thursday night.

Goldberg, left quickly from the gate and was able to wrestle the early lead from speedster Late Mail N. Goldberg cleared the lead at the quarter in a rapid 27.1. 

Montrell Teague was able to throttle Goldberg’s speed and they arrived at the half in 56.1,  a 29.1 quarter.

At the five eighth marker, Itsrockandroll A and Corey Callahan moved off the rail and charged after the leader. They reached the three quarters in 1:24 flat, a 27.4 quarter.

In the deep stretch, Goldberg prevailed, and won by a half length in 1:50.4. The last half was paced in 54.3. The last quarter was 26.4.

Goldberg (Mr. Wiggles) is owned by MST Racing Inc. 

He is trained by Brenda Teague and nephew Montrell Teague was the driver.

Goldberg returned $4.80 for the victory.

Itsrockandroll A, fought hard, but finished second, as the 6/5 race favorite. Dylan Davis trained and Corey Callahan drove.

Trojan Banner N picked up the show spot for trainer Jim King Jr. Tim Tetrick drove.
