Coming first-over after the half mile, Grey (Charlie De Vie) was able to grind it out against X O X O to win the $39,000 Filly & Mare Open Handicap Trot Thursday (Oct. 27) at Yonkers Raceway.
The 8th race harness racing feature started off with X O X O (Brent Holland), a 25-1 longshot, going right to the lead with race favorite Kenziesky Hanover (Jason Barlett) getting the two-hole trip to the opening quarter in :28.
X O X O led the field past the half mile in :57.2 and then driver Matt Kakaley came first-over from third place with Grey. Following second-over was Plumb (Jordan Stratton). Grey was advancing on X O X O at the three quarters in 1:26.
By the top of the stretch, Grey was able to look X O X O in the eye and after a torrid stretch drive, Grey pulled away at the finish to win over X O X O by one and three-quarter lengths in 1:55.3. Kenziesky Hanover was third.
