Harness Horsemen International’s annual harness racing meetings, which wrapped up after four days at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Deerfield Beach, Florida, in mid-February, were well attended this year, and included the Monticello Harness Horsemen’s Association, which rejoined HHI after a brief hiatus.
By rejoining HHI, Monticello HHA will share in the benefits of the first-class, long standing horseman’s organization, which includes utilizing HHI’s third party liability insurance.
HHI President Ron Battoni opened the meetings on Feb. 20, with trainer-driver Anthony MacDonald then speaking on fractional ownership, followed by Emily Stearns of the American Horse Council. Other meetings included a presentation by USTA Executive Vice President Mike Tanner, as well as HHI committees and individual association reports.
The HHI annual Awards Luncheon on Feb. 21 honored Kim Hankins, HHI’s Person of the Year Award honoree; Andrew Markano, HHI’s Appreciation Award winner; and Matt Sparacino, HHI’s Clyde Hirt Media Award honoree.
HHI’s Board of Directors includes Ron Battoni, President; Kim Hankins, First VP; Tony Somone, Second VP; Sal DiMario, Secretary; Andy Markano, Treasurer. Cathy Dessert, Aaron Hall, Mike Harant, and Paul London are at-large members, while Mike Izzo and Tom Luchento are Emeritus members.
