Haggard (Big Bad John, Jack Pelling) won the $12,000 Preferred Handicap harness racing pace at Freehold Raceway on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 4).
Franco Nandor N (Austin Siegelman) took the early lead, with the 9-5 favorite Lyons Steel (Vincent Ginsburg) following closely in second, and Saranac Blue Chip (Johnathan Ahle) racing in third. From the outside, Saranac Blue Chip moved to the front, taking charge by a length as they made their way to the first quarter mile in :27.1.
As they passed the stand, Saranac Blue Chip led the way by a length and a half. Franco Nandor N followed in second and Lyons Steel was in third as they passed the half mile in :56.1.
As they passed the three-quarter mile in 1:24.4, Lyons Steel had captured the lead, leaving Saranac Blue Chip in second. On the outside, Haggard was racing in third.
As they turned for home, Lyons Steel led the way, with Saranac Blue Chip trying to catch up from the inside and Haggard gaining ground from the outside. Haggard crossed the wire first in 1:53.4. Lyons Steel finished a length back in second and Saranac Blue Chip came in third.

Haggard is a 6-year-old gelding owned by Jeffrey Webster and trained by John Bavosi. He paid $13.40 to win.
