Hightstown, NJ — There were no newcomers to the harness racing Top 10 in this week’s Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll, but Captain Corey moved nearer to No. 1 Manchego while Atlanta, Lyons Sentinel, and Charlie May each improved position.
Captain Corey won the Earl Beal Jr. Memorial and added six first-place votes and 47 points from last week. He trails Manchego, who was idle, by 39 points. The margin was 94 points a week ago.
Sebastian K Invitational winner Atlanta moved from fourth to third while Lyons Sentinel, who beat male rivals in a conditioned race, went from fifth to fourth and Ohio Sire Stakes division winner Charlie May jumped from eighth to fifth.
Hot Mess Express, who finished sixth in the James M. Lynch Memorial, dropped from third to sixth.
The Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll does not determine Horse of the Year. The members of the U.S. Harness Writers Association vote on all Dan Patch Award division winners plus Trotter of the Year, Pacer of the Year and Horse of the Year.
