The votes poured in again for Manchego in the week four Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll after the harness racing mare’s dominant win in the Miss Versatility, taking nine more first place votes and sixteen more points than the week prior.
This Is The Plan dropped 11 points and seven first place votes, but he remained second despite not starting in the past week. Abuckabett Hanover picked up nine points and stayed third despite missing the last two weeks but lost his first place vote from the previous poll.
Nicholas Beach, who also hasn’t started since May 30 kept his two first place votes and gained 10 points. It’s Academic was also dormant in the past week; he remained fifth and lost 10 points.
The only movement occurred in the bottom five places as Southwind Gendry and Alexa Skye moved into sixth and seventh, respectively, overtaking Machnhope after the latter finished seventh in a fillies and mares open at The Meadowlands. Machnhope remained eighth but lost 57 points. Captain Barbossa remained ninth with five points less than last week.
When Dovescry took the 10th spot and made her first appearance in the poll this year after a victory in the Miss Versatility.
The Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll does not determine Horse of the Year. The members of the U.S. Harness Writers Association vote on all Dan Patch Award division winners plus Trotter of the Year, Pacer of the Year and Horse of the Year.
