Columbus, OH — The 1995 Hambletonian winner Tagliabue was put down on Sunday (May 15), according to his owner, Jules Siegel.
Unraced at 2, the son of Super Bowl-Double Coverage had five wins and five seconds in 13 starts as a sophomore, banking $869,600. Tagliabue’s biggest moment came when he scored in 1:54.4 in the $1 million Hambletonian final for harness racing trainer Jim Campbell, driver John Campbell and owners Arlene and Jules Siegel.
Tagliabue also won a $117,550 Zweig Memorial division and was named 3-year-old Colt Trotter of the Year in the Dan Patch Award balloting.
Tagliabue won two of five races as a 4-year-old and lowered his mark to 1:53.3. He retired with career earnings of $904,600.
He stood 12 seasons at stud in Pennsylvania and his offspring banked more than $17.8 million.
