Harness Analyst – Northfield 17th February pick five

Tonight’s harness racing action features a Pick 5 carryover of more than $21,000 at Northfield Park.

Considering the takeout rate on new money is only 14%, there is a good chance this could be a rare positive takeout wager. The sequence starts in race 6 which is scheduled to go at 7:50 p.m. The base wager is $1.

This Pick 5 looks very hittable to me. Here is my analysis and suggested Pick 5 ticket:

Race 6: 1,3,8

(1) MYSTICAL VIRGIN gets class and post relief here and she looks perfectly spotted to land in the pocket early and work out a nice trip. She is a must-use for me at a square price.

(3) GIRL SCOUT COOKIE is on a roll right now and she looked really good powering past first-over last week. She steps up but she might be up to it.

(8) THE GYPSY QUEEN IR comes in from The Meadows for the Burke barn showing nothing but wins and a 1:51.1 lifetime-best score in her most recent start. Enough said.

Race 7: 2

(2) MY RED SEA lost Wrenn Jr. last week, but she still eked out her fourth win in a row. She draws inside and gets Wrenn Jr. back, and she will be a single for me facing similar with post position advantage.  

Race 8: 1,4,6,7

(1) WALTER’S KEEPSAKE is right there every week, and he is hard to leave off the ticket starting from the rail with aggressive teamster A Mac in the bike.

(4) ELLIANA R just won at this class level but in a race restricted to mares. This will be tougher, but she is useable.

(6) FIELD TESTED could get brave on the lead here and he is another possibility for the Pick 5.

(7) GIANNA GRACE shows improving form and she is worth including as a potential value player at a big price.

Race 9: 3

(3) ELVETTE HANOVER was a winner the last time she raced here at this level five starts back then she was in too tough in subsequent starts. She will be a single here for me starting from a good post.

Race 10: 2,3,4,6

(2) RACING GLORY drops and draws inside and she is the one to beat here in the cash leg of this Pick 5.

(3) VIBRENT KALLY got a driver change to Merriman and she converted right away. She can get a good trip here and that makes her a possibility.

(4) BEYOND WORDS N came close here two starts back with the trainer driving now she gets catch driver Davis Jr. She is a price possibility.

(6) FILLY SPEAKS drops to a level where she should be more competitive and Wrenn Jr. will put her in the race at some point.
