Tonight’s harness racing action features a nice Pick 5 carryover of more than $8,400 at Northfield Park. The Pick 5 starts in Race 6, and it is a $1 base wager.
There is some potential to get a couple of prices in this sequence, let’s take a look:
Race 6: 1,2,4,5,6,8
Simply, this looks like a race where anything goes. We have a field of nine trotters, some of whom are short on experience. I’m going to go six-deep and hope to connect with a price.
Race 7: 4
Race 7 is where you will find my single, (4) CAPTAINCHRISP. The well bred gelding showed some grit winning by racing first up in the slop in his debut and he gets Kurt Sugg in the bike tonight. A repeat is likely.
Race 8: 1,2,3
It seems as though there are a few evenly matched contenders in here and I’ll use three of them.
(1) WINNIE KASH comes off a big mile where she parked all the way from post 8 and still almost got the job done. She is a must-use tonight starting from the rail.
(2) BUTTER N SYRUP qualified fast enough in the slop on 4/4 to contend here assuming she is fully recovered from her bout of sickness.
(3) SHIRIN is another that comes in off a good first up effort that is in with a decent chance in this second start back.
Race 9: 3,8
(3) PARTYS JET got two terrible trips in a row now Hunter Myers takes over in the bike. A better trip is likely and if he pulls off an upset, she will really make the Pick 5 pay.
(8) WINNER IS COMING has won 20 of his 38 starts in 2023/24 and he is especially tough at this $5,000 claiming level. He is the one to beat despite drawing widest.
Race 10: 4,5
(4) PRAIRIE GINGER took a rare win last week but she looked good doing it and this spot doesn’t look much tougher.
(5) EAR RINGS drops back down to a spot where she fits best and she will likely be blasting off the gate this time. She is a threat to lead all the way or win from the pocket.
