Harness racing takes centre stage at Hoosier Park tonight as the Grand Circuit comes to Anderson, Indiana. The $420,000 Peter Haughton Memorial for two-year-old colt and gelding trotters and $400,000 Jim Doherty Memorial for two-year-old filly trotters headline a stakes laden card.
Here is my full analysis of this 14-race card and some multi-race tickets to consider. Good luck tonight.
Best Bet – MARTZ TELLY – Race 1
Spot Play – MARS HILL – Race 12
50-Cent Pick 5 – Race 1 – 4/4,5/8/3,4,5,8,9,10/2,4,5,6 = $24
50-Cent Pick 4 – Race 3 – 8/3,4,5,8,9,10/2,4,5,6/6 = $12
50-Cent Pick 5 – Race 10 – 1,9/5/3,4/1,3,5/1,5,6 = $18
Race 1 – 4-8-5-2
(4) MARTZ TELLY is the leader of this division with five wins in six starts, his only loss coming in a race where he was too far back and out of position. He is the clear top choice here and a single in the opening leg of the 50-cent Pick 5.
Race 2 – 5-4-1-2
(5) TELL’S ON A ROLL has been living up to her name recently and she gets top billing here, although (4) SHADOWRAGE comes off a strong effort and should also be used in the Pick 5. She could be a pocket rocket tonight.
Race 3 – 8-5-1-6
(8) P J LOU was a 1:48.3 winner from this post last time he raced at Hoosier and I will single him looking for some Pick 4 and Pick 5 value here.
Race 4 – 4-3-5-9
(4) DOUBLE PARKED is a win machine that is fast enough to go with these and I’ll take a stab with her at a price.
Race 5 – 2-4-6-5
(2) TELLMEABOUTIT paced a 53.1 back half last week but he was just too far back. The short field should help him tonight and he could pounce late as a good price.
Race 6 – 6-10-5-1
(6) TALENT SCOUT jogged and took a new life’s mark in Leg 6 of this sires stake and now he gets Dunn in the bike tonight. He will be a single for me.
Race 7 – 6-8-3-1
(6) ROLLIN ROSIE is the class of this division with only one loss in each of 2022 and 2023 and she should be very hard to beat here.
Race 8 – 2-6-7-4
(2) FRANKIE FRANKIE is the now horse in this division having just taken a new life’s mark taken when beating some of these and he gets top billing here.
Race 9 – 6-9-3-1
(6) PRETENDER is the class of this field and he should convert if he stays flat this time.
Race 10 – 9-1-4-3
(9) SOIREE HANOVER made a very impressive late charge to win the New Jersey Classic Final and she gets the call to repeat in this year’s Jim Doherty Memorial.
Race 11 – 5-7-10-3
(5) TELLATINI is on a roll that is unlikely to be stopped in this spot; top call.
Race 12 – 3-4-8-1
I thought (3) MARS HILL might have been best in the Wellwood final, but trying to catch (4) T C I circling around stalled cover following a 58.2 middle half was a tall chore. He could be the value of the race in this year’s edition of the Haughton.
Race 13 – 1-3-5-2
(1) TELLMEITMATTERS is perfectly spotted where he can take advantage of his blazing late speed and he should handle this group.
Race 14 – 6-5-1-3
(6) MAGNIFICENT MARK steps up from claiming races where he was haltered three times in a row, but he is sharp and he should offer a good price here; top call.
