Harness News Update: Picks and analysis for Oak Grove May 27

Oak Grove kicks off the week with a 12-dash harness race card on Monday (May 27). The card features two Pick 5 wagers with the first starting in race one and the late wager starting in the sixth. The first leg for the Kentucky Sire Stakes will be featured on the card.

French Wine (Bar Hopping) is the 6-5 morning line favourite in the first race which is the KYSS for four-year-old trotting horses and geldings. He has finished in the top three in all three of his starts this year but hasn’t won since his season debut. He trotted his winning mile in 1:54.1 and has continued to be close since then. He hasn’t been able to close races late but with the rail, he should be very dangerous on Monday. French Wine is the only millionaire in the field although he only has nine career wins. However, he has finished in the top three in 25 of his 31 career starts. Daniel Dube will be in the bike for trainer Julie Miller.

FRENCH WINE REPLAY

The second split for trotting four-year-old horses and geldings comes in the third race and   Once In A Lifetime (Father Patrick) opens as the 9-5 morning line favourite. The Jim Campell-trained gelding has one win in 1:55.1 this year in three starts. He followed up that victory with a second-place finish but was able to cut down his mile time by almost three seconds. Todd McCarthy will be back in the sulky with Once In A Lifetime.

ONCE IN A LIFETIME REPLAY

The third and final split for the mature Kentucky-sired trotting boys has The Hazelton (Muscle Mass) licking his lips to make it two wins in a row. He won the Open 2 last week in 1:53.1 for his 14th victory of his career. He just missed matching his lifetime mark by one-fifth of a second. Yannick Gingras will team up with the Ron Burke trotter.
