Despite moving up in class after a fifth-place finish in her last start, not only did Dole Whip (Sweet Lou) go off as the wagering favorite in the $14,400 harness racing feature pace at Harrah’s Philadelphia Thursday (Aug. 24), but she also won in a romp.
The 7th race for fillies and mares saw Dole Whip and driver George Napolitano, Jr. leave alertly from post five and clear to the lead with ease, cutting the mile to the first quarter in :28.1 with Split Pot (Simon Allard) sitting the two-hole trip.
Going to the half mile, Tigers Watching N (Ivan Llopez) came first-over, getting within a half a length of the leader in :57.1. Dole Whip continued to lead the way as Tigers Watching N faded causing both Era Of Love (Troy Beyer) and Hungry Lizzo (Andy Miller) to go three-wide in the backstretch to the three-quarters in 1:25.1.
By the top of the stretch, Dole Whip was leading by two and one-half lengths and then increased her lead down the stretch winning by four open lengths in 1:53.4. The pocket-sitting Split Pot was second with Hungry Lizzo third.
DOLE WHIP REPLAY
It was the third win of the season for Dole Whip, who is trained by Tom Cancelliere for owner-breeder John Cancelliere. She paid $4.20 to win.
