Hungry Angel Boy (Stay Hungry), the even-money favorite, put in a gut-wrenching harness racing performance as he captured the $33,200 first of two Tompkins-Geers divisions for sophomore pacers in a career best 1:48.2 for driver Todd McCarthy at the Meadowlands Saturday (July 29).
Trained and co-owned by Tony Algana for Pryde Stables, Pit Bull Stables, and Brittany, Head, and Riverview Racing, Hungry Angel Boy ran down 4-5 Voukefalas in the lane as he stormed home to nail down his first victory of the season.
Captain Batboy took the field through a :27.1 first quarter and :54.1 half for driver Tim Tetrick, then paced to a :27 third quarter, while Hungry Angel Boy followed behind Voukefalas, who pulled first over at the 1:21 three-quarter mile marker.Ā Ā The pair then battled it out to the wire with Flash Move (Andy McCarthy) nailing down third-place honors.
Hungry Angel Boy is the sixth of eight foals out of the Western Ideal mare Angel Scent p, 3, 1:50.4s ($208,343), making him a half-brother to Tenthousand Angels (Captaintreacherous) p, 5, 1:52 ($193,012) and to Pretty Angel Eyes (Bettorās Delight) p, 4, 1:53.3f ($162,605). Hungry Angel Boy now has $205,105 in career earnings from this latest triumph, the third of his career in ten lifetime starts. He also has a trio of second place and three third place finishes to his credit.

All Class (Heston Blue Chip) sneaked up the inside to grab the victory away from Tip Top Cat in the $33,700 second Tompkins-Geers contest, clocked in 1:49.s, a career best.Ā Ā Andy McCarthy steered the pacer for trainer Per Englbom and owners Morrison Racin Stables of Indiana, PA.
Save America with driver Matt Kakaley aboard had led the field through fractions of :26.2 and :54.2, before Tip Top Cat (Yannick Gingras) pulled first over and challenged the leader at the 1:22.1 three-quarter marker. From there it was a calvary charge to the wire, with All Class finally breaking through a wall of horses on the inside. Ammo (David Miller) got up to be third.
