Huntsville foals were able to capture both harness racing finals of the Homegrown Series and the Renaissance Series at Freehold Raceway on Saturday (Sept. 24).
The action got underway in the 5th race, the $40,000 Homegrown Series Final for three-year-old colts and gelding pacers.
Camouflage Money (Troy Beyer) was first on the lead with Bloodhound (Daniel Dube) grabbing the two-hole trip to the opening quarter mile in :27. Meanwhile, race favorite JMās Finaltreasure (Austin Siegelman) was parked out first over to the quarter and then had to back off into third place.
Still on the lead past the half mile in :55.3, Camouflage Money was then challenged by Bloodhound, who pulled first-over from his pocket trip to take the lead away at the three-quarters in 1:24. JMās Finaltreasure also came out and was following Bloodhound onto the final turn.
By the top of the stretch, Bloodhound and Dube were leading by two lengths and then opened up on the field to win in a romp by four and three-quarter lengths in 1:52.2. JMās Finaltreasure was second with One Of the Guys (Jack Pelling) third.
BLOODHOUND REPLAY
For the gelded son of Huntsville, it was a lifetime mark for Bloodhound in his second win this year for trainer and owner Mark Silva and paid $8.00 to win.
The two-year-olds battled in the 8th race final of the Renaissance Series with a purse of $45,000.
Hound On The Beach (George Brennan) was first on the lead with Taste Of Honey (Austin Siegelman) getting the two-hole trip as they went by the opening quarter mile in :28.
Going to the half mile, Bettorruntheante (Jack Pelling) came first-over with race favorite, Peppermint Man (Daniel Dube) following the outside. Bettorruntheante then went-off stride, causing interference to Peppermint Man, who was able to continue on first-over. They went by the half mile in :57.2.
In the backstretch Taste Of Honey pulled first-over against Hound On The Beach and was able to collar the leader at the three-quarters in 1:26.2 with Peppermint Man still second-over and in the hunt.
Clearing to the lead by the top of the stretch, Taste Of Honey went on to win by two lengths in 1:55 with Hound On The Beach second and Peppermint Man third.
