The Red Mile played host to three $80,000 divisions of the Kentucky Championship Series Tuesday (Sept. 6) with all eyes on I Did It Myway (Captaintreacherous) going against Pebble Beach in the three-year-old colt pace.

A hold-over from Monday due to storms, the 4th leg for the sophomore colts was a non-wagering race.

Dancin Sancho (Trevor Smith) started the show with a quick move to the lead with I Did It Myway (Andy McCarthy) getting the pocket-ride to the first quarter in :27.2.

They raced single file past the half mile in :54.3 and then the three-quarters in 1:22. That was when McCarthy pulled the pocket with I Did It Myway and they had the lead by the top of the stretch with a three-length advantage.

Pebble Beach (Todd McCarthy) was fourth at the three-quarters and then came on like gangbusters, including a :25.3 last quarter mile, but I Did It Myway was also strong in the stretch, winning by one length over Pebble Beach in 1:48.2 with Dancin Sancho third.

Trained by Tony Alagna, it was the third straight win for I Did It Myway and his fifth victory of the season. He was bred by Joe Sbrocco and is owned by Country Club Acres, Inc, Joe Sbrocco, Don Latore and Alagna And Fodera Racing.

The second held-over non-wagering $80,000 division was the 4th leg of the series for two-year-old trotting fillies.

Walner Payton and driver Dexter Dunn were up front from the start with Special Way (Walner) and driver Ake Svanstedt sitting the pocket seat as they went by the first quarter in :29.1 and the half mile in :58.1.

Heading to the three-quarters saw Svanstedt pull the pocket with Special Way as Life Itself (Tim Tetrick) was second-over past the teletimer in 1:27.

By the top of the stretch Special Way had the lead by a head and outkicked Walner Payton to the wire, winning by two and one-quarter lengths in 1:53.4. Life Itself was third.

Since coming to Kentucky, Special Way is undefeated in three straight starts. She is trained by Ake Svanstedt and is a homebred owned by Brittany Farms, LLC, Marvin Katze and Al Libfeld.

The lone $80,000 division that was on the pari-mutuel card took place in the 7th race 4th leg for two-year-old pacing colts.

An early battle for the lead took place at the start with Command (Todd McCarthy) battling on the outside against Bamboozler (Dexter Dunn), and Confederate (Sweet Lou) and driver Tim Tetrick already second-over in third.

They went by the first quarter in :28 as Bamboozler briefly took the lead from Command and then Confederate zoomed by to be the new leader and take the field to the half mile in :56.3 and the three-quarters in 1:24.2 before Bamboozler moved first-over to challenge.

Up by three lengths at the top of the stretch, Confederate and Tetrick went on to win by that same margin in 1:50.4. Blue Lou (Andy McCarthy) was second with Bamboozler third.

CONFEDERATE REPLAY

It was the third straight win for Confederate, who is trained by Brian Brown. A homebred he is owned by Diamond Creek Farm and paid $4.44 to win as the wagering favorite.
