Illinois tracks apply for 2024 racing dates

The Illinois Racing Board (IRB) received a trio of applications for 2024 harness racing dates, including two Thoroughbred and one Standardbred.

Suburban Downs at Hawthorne Racecourse applied for 51 harness racing programs, from January 1-December 31, and also applied for 85 Thoroughbred programs over the same date range.  Fairmount Park, located in East St. Louis, Illinois, applied for 150 Thoroughbred programs.

The applications for 2024 racing dates were due today, July 31, 2023. The IRB staff will review the applications and allow the aforementioned racetracks to make any amendments, via the Illinois Horse Racing Act of 1975, before considering said applications at their Sept. 21, 2023, dates hearing.
