Columbus, OH — Total wagering on U.S. harness racing during the third quarter of 2023 from July 1 through Sept. 30 increased by $6,086,410 (1.53 percent) with $402,675,941 bet this year compared to $396,589,531 during the same three months in 2022.
Purses during the third quarter showed an increase of 3.51 percent. From July through September, $194,866,907 was distributed in purses compared to $188,262,300 last year, an increase of $6,604,607.
Average wagering per race decreased by 1.00 percent from $38,218 to $38,114 (-$104). Wagering per betting interest was down slightly during the third quarter by 1.57 percent at $5,078 compared to $5,159 in 2022.
The number of race days decreased by 31 (-2.60 percent) with 1,163 this year compared to 1,194 last year.
