Bangor, Maine … Everything old was brand new again on Wednesday (5-15) at Bangor Raceway as Instant Replay (Lazarus N) scored in 1:58.2 and won handily in his first start of the season while harness racing driver Walter Case, Jr. overpowered the young guns while engineering a driving triple on the late afternoon program.
Instant Replay, a fairly lightly raced four-year-old son of the promising new stallion, Lazarus N, scored his 7th career win while making his very first start of the season for owner/trainer George Fenno III. He paid $3.40 to win.
The fans, giddy about the impressive recent prep effort and with memories of his notable sophomore campaign fully entrenched, quickly jumped on the bandwagon, sending Instant Replay to the gate as the 3-5 favorite.
Case, confident in his charge’s ability, wasted little time reciprocating, sending the chalk smartly off the gate, rushing him to the top through an insistent quarter-pole move, then gliding through an insurmountable 57.4 back-half while marching toward a breezy 1-3/4 length margin at the wire.

Case’s other wins came courtesy of a pair of well-meant Allison Mac Donald trainees.
Chilled Prosecco (So Surreal, 1:59.4-$3.20) overcame near disastrous interference at the 1/8th pole before charging on to the lead just past the 1/4 pole, and then making every other pole a winning one, to record his third career victory.

And then stablemate Tim Mcmiki (Always B Miki, 1:56.1-$2.40), trucking in from his recent Yonkers swing, wore down the locals through a determined first-over grind, gaining complete control as they reached three-quarters, before being hand driven to the wire by Case, as the cashiers opened fresh rolls of dimes.

In other Bangor news, drivers Dan Deslandes and Heath Campbell teamed two winners each on the Wednesday matinee while trainer Jeffrey Deslandes matched Allison Mac Donald by sending two winners to the post, enabling both members of the Deslandes Clan to maintain their grasps on the top spots of their respective leaders’ boards.
