Is it luck or does he have a recipe for success?

As another year is fast coming to an end, M T Stables Ontario Inc is transforming into a prominent harness racing entity not only in North America, but also in New Zealand and Australia.

Owner Mike Tanev owns many horses in North America which race under M T Stables Ontario Inc and Mike Tanev in both countries down under.

Talking with Mike he said he has been an owner since early 2020.

Having been involved in the gambling aspect since the late 70’s he decided he wanted to try his hand in ownership. One thing that always intrigued him was the success of Southern Hemisphere horses in the early 80’s, so when he went looking for horses to purchase, he headed straight to the South. He also owns and races some of the brightest stars in New Zealand and Australia such as Aardies Express (Always B Miki), Aardiebytheseaside (Downbytheseaside), Aardiebythehill (Muscle Hill), Jay Bracken (Hes Watching), The Ideal Dancer (American Ideal), Mason’s Delight (American Ideal).

Both Aardiebythehill and Aardies Express were winners at Addington Raceway on Friday night, first up in their spring campaigns and showed they will be forces to be reckoned for bigger assessments over the next few months.

The latter of the two was able to fend off the challenge of the reigning two-year-old filly of the year and four-time Group One winner, True Fantasy, in the second Nevele R Fillies heat. It was Aardies Express first encounter with New Zealand’s best fillies and she showed her win in the Southland Oaks final earlier in the year was no fluke and has greatly enhanced her reputation as potentially being the best in her crop.

AARDIES EXPRESS REPLAY

Tanev has experienced significant success exporting his southern hemisphere stock to race in North America. They include the likes of Ivana Flybye N (American Ideal), Undrthsouthrnsun N (Somebeachsomewhere), Speedy Dominic A (American Ideal), Never Mind N (Muscle Mass), Hughie Junior N (Art Major), Long Weekend A (Sunshine Beach).

The list goes on, but one thing that stays the same is the relevant success his purchases have had. Originally racing in Canada, he decided that it would be a better business decision to send all his horses down to New Jersey under the watchful eye of Jennifer Bongiorno and Andrew Harris.

Winning more races in the US in such a short time than his time in Canada has given him an alternative path to the horse business.

Recently he decided to open up his knowledge of Southern horses to owners who may be looking to purchase a horse with potential. His knowledge of all the different racetracks , times, drivers, trainers has allowed him to purchase new arrivals that have already raced in the US, but most of all his ability to negotiate a “better deal”

Mike has told us that his main source of income is in the Auto Industry. By having that ability and transferring some of the same traits, he is totally confident he will find potential owners the type of horses that will bring them success.
