Cream Ridge, NJ – 3/25/2024 – Somewhere between a few rain clouds this weekend the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF) found some sun and filled a few dreams with adoptions. With the hope for nicer weather ahead, potential adopters were out to find their dream harness racing horses!
Hello Andy found his home as a companion to another horse and settled in immediately to what will be a life of being spoiled!
Gespacho also known as Mr. Wilson hit the jackpot too! He is now a resident of North Carolina. This guy deserves every bit of love he will have living his life as a trail horse! His rescue effort was a gift from the kindness of a supporter from Dallas, Texas.
Both geldings were rescued from the slaughter line in 2023.
On the other side of SRF’s work, three Standardbreds are grateful to have the kindness of donations to get their chance. They were tagged to ship for slaughter today, instead, two have already arrived to quarantine, and the other is waiting for his ride home.
The two are unbranded mares, one is about 12, the other in her later teens. They clearly have worked hard in the rural area, “Straight out of hard work,” the pen announcer declares. They are now under SRF’s care and expense through quarantine and rehabilitation. The older gal doesn’t have the best odds for adoption but one never knows what will shine when she is rested, her feet trimmed, and is in better health and spirit. Both are now in PA. The third, a gelding with an eye injury, another just 12 years old, hit the Lotto! He is returning to his breeder in Illinois!
Ninety-two percent of how SRF can step up comes from donations from compassionate donors. The funds to pay to release a horse is the first step. What follows is where the help is truly needed, rehabilitation.
The two ladies would love a foster home, a permanent home, and a sponsor until they can smile once again!
