It’s Academic (Uncle Peter) set a new stakes record of 1:50.2 in the $155,140 Crawford Farms Open Trot by virtue of an outstanding harness racing performance that saw him notch his fourth win of the year and 26th triumph lifetime on Saturday (Jul. 1) at The Meadowlands.
Bred by Hickory Lane Horse Farm of Findlay, Ohio, It’s Academic is owned by Bradley Grant of Milton, Ontario and trained by Hall of Fame Ronnie Burke.
Driven by Hall of Famer David Miller, It’s Academic used a :26.3 final brush as the 3-1 choice to establish that new stakes record as he pushed his career earnings to $1,525,294.
“He is really easy to get along with and a very handy horse,” Miller related. “He waits on me to ask him to go, and right off the gate I decided to take a tuck, and pulled when I thought he was ready. I was pretty confident with him tonight, and I think as long as nothing happens to him, he’ll continue to be sharp all season.”
Venerate was second as the 8-5 favorite for Brian Sears, with Rattle My Cage third at 8-1 with Tim Tetrick up, and the recent America-bred, Swedish import Asteroid, closing hard at 5-2 to be fourth for Dexter Dunn.
