Ft. Washington, MD — Jack Quick has been a model of consistency for owner-trainer Basil Sapienza since the start of the Fall meet in 2020 at Rosecroft Raceway. Sunday night (March 21), he blasted three-wide past a pair of dueling combatants to win the $10,000 Open Handicap Pace in 1:52.2.
Driver Jason Thompson’s winning move may have come in the first eighth of a mile as he left from post seven and found a home fourth before the opening quarter of :26.4. He sat patient as the leader Rocktavious and Shneonucrzydiamnd A battled through fractions of :55.1 and 1:24.1. At that point Thompson sent his charge three wide and he sprinted home in :28 under wraps for the win. In his last 20 starts, Jack Quick has been in the top three in 15 of them.
It was one of three wins on the card for Thompson who won with Topville Crusier for trainer Jay Gannon and Carlin Savage and Makin Money Fast for trainer Brian Callahan, Gloria Kinnamon and Jessica Sutton.
Russell Foster won three times, including a dead heat with Eric Foster Jr.’s 30-1 shot Carlos Mittanna who caught leader Boot Leg and Pat Berry in the final stride. It was the first win of the year for Boot Leg, owned by the Twin Ponds Stable and trained by John Hollingsworth.
Foster drove another puzzling longshot, Lil Johnny, to victory at 13-1 for owner-trainer Jason Walters, and guided his own Kiss A Dragon for trainer Megan Foster.
Tony Morgan upped his career win total to 16,810 with two wins as he drove Ashley Foxwell’s Rose Run Ranger, who was parked the mile, to a win for the first time in three starts since being acquired by trainer Justin Brenneman. Morgan dominated a conditioned event with Bo Breeze who won by seven lengths for the Murray Stable and trainer Shawn Murray.
