DAYTON, OH – Jailhouse Sam, with trainer Hugh ‘Sandy’ Beatty in the sulky, broke out and lead a field of Open trotters on a futile chase at Hollywood Dayton Raceway on Wednesday (Nov. 24). The purse was $28,000.
The 7-year-old Victory Sam gelding, who has earned over a half million dollars in his stellar career, left alertly from the gate and fronted the field the entire mile, except for a sixteenth of a mile when runner-up Pass The Vape (Trevor Smith) got a half-length advantage on him as the pair neared the three-quarter pole.
Thunder (Brett Miller) closed quickest of all to garner the show money. With fractions of :27, :56.3, 1:25 and a final clocking of 1:53.3, Jailhouse Same came within a second of his lifetime best taken last year. He has spent the entire 2021 season competing favorably with stalwarts like Mission Accepted, Refined and Whata Swan, all of whom were absent on this occasion, making the task of winning a little less daunting.
Bred and owned by Casey Clemens of Malta, Ohio, the winner has spent his entire career in the Beatty Stable, winning 32 times and banking $519,447.
JAILHOUSE SAM REPLAY
Hollywood Dayton will be dark on Thursday for Thanksgiving, but will resume live racing with Friday (Nov. 26) and Saturday (Nov. 27) programs beginning at 4 p.m.
