Jiggy Jog S (Walner) avenged earlier losses to M-M’s Dream this summer by powering past that rival to win the $250,000 Dayton Oaks Derby in Grand Circuit harness racing action from Dayton Raceway on Saturday night (Sep. 30).
Driver Dexter Dunn was content to float Jiggy Jog S off the gate and drop into fifth early and watch M-M’s Dream get roughed up early as she made a wide advance to the front after starting from post nine.
Forceful Power (Hugh Beatty) used rail control to drive to the front early with both Eternal Lee (Andrew McCarthy) and H P Mama B (Louis Roy) also blasting for position. That left Dave Miller with a decision to make, and he sent M-M’s Dream three-wide towards the front as the leader hit the quarter in 27.3.
Miller would make front after trotting three-eighths of a mile and M-M’s Dream set the pace to the half in 56.2 with no challengers to that point. Roy activated H P Mama B with three-eighths of a mile left and that mare would provide both a stern challenge to the leader and live cover for M-M’s Dream.
M-M’s Dream held a half-length advantage on H P Mama B at the three-quarters in 1:24.4 with Jiggy Jog S set to roll wide. When Dunn gave showed her racetrack, Jiggy Jog S exploded past the spent leaders in early stretch and she trotted away for a two-length Grand Circuit score, trotting the mile in 1:52.2.
M-M’s Dream held second over a game H P Mama B and Forceful Power finished fourth.
