With a very strong first-over move after the half mile, Jiggy Jog S (Walner) with harness racing driver Dexter Dunn wore down rival M-M’s Dream and then held on at the finish in setting a track record winning the $400,000 Breeders Crown for older trotting mares Saturday (Oct. 28) at Harrah’s Hoosier Park.
The 8th race co-feature saw Raised By Lindy (Scott Zeron) shoot to the lead from post nine with Refined (Doug McNair) getting the two-hole spot racing to a quick opening quarter of :26.2.
Then it was Refined coming back out at the quarter to take the lead from Raised By Lindy. Also on the move was M-M’s Dream (David Miller) coming to the outside and taking the lead away from Refined at the half mile in :55.1.
Dunn then moved out from fourth place with Jiggy Jog S, the overwhelming 1/9 race favorite, who started up on the outside and collared M-M’s Dream by the three-quarter mile mark in 1:24.1.
It then became a two-horse affair as Jiggy Jog S took on rival M-M’s Dream and Jiggy Jog S started to pull away as they headed to the wire, then M-M’s Dream came back but not enough as Jiggy Jog S held on to win by half a length in 1:51.1, a new track record for four-year-old trotting mares.
JIGGY JOG S REPLAY
It is the second straight year that Jiggy Jog S has won her Breeders Crown division, last year capturing the three-year-old final. With her third straight victory and seventh win of the season in just ten starts, Jiggy Jog S surpassed $2 million in career earnings.
Jiggy Jog S is trained by Ake Svanstedt for owner Jorgen Sparredal, Inc. of Delray Beach, FL and paid $2.20 to win. She was bred by Vestmarka Ab of Sweden.
“She is just amazing,” said winning driver Dexter Dunn. “I probably let her go a little early and on that last turn I was trying to slow her down a little bit. She is just an amazing mare.”
