Judy’s Moni gets third BSS win

Grove City, OH – Judy’s Moni (Ready For Moni) added a third Buckeye Stallion Series win to her harness racing resume on Sunday (Aug. 24) as MGM Northfield Park hosted four $20,000 divisions of the fourth leg for freshman filly trotters.

The three BSS wins ties Judy’s Moni with Joyofmylife As, who did not race Sunday and was instead entered into the Ohio Sires Stakes at Eldorado Scioto Downs on Saturday (Aug. 23) where she won the second division of 2-year-old filly trotters.

Driven by Anthony MacDonald for trainer Jason McGinnis, Judy’s Moni won the fourth division in 2:00. She has hit the board in all five seasonal starts with three wins, one second, and one third and has $41,660 in earnings. She is owned by Thestable Judys Moni.

The Ready For Moni filly left from post two and passed the quarter pole in third place as Lacy Lucy (Austin Hanners) led in :29.3. MacDonald promptly took Judy’s Moni to the outside and into the lead, and the 3-5 betting favorite remained in front the rest of the way with fractions of :59.4 and 1:29 en route to finishing a length ahead of second-place Lacy Lucy. Dublins Breanna (Luke Hanners), a winner in the second leg, was third.

JUDY’S MONI REPLAY

Chip Shot (L. Hanners) posted the fastest mile among the four divisions, winning the first division in a lifetime-best 1:58.2 in an upset at 13-1. The Vernon Beachy trainee was in fourth place as Hill Of A Diva (Chris Page) led the field past the first two calls in fractions of :28.4 and :58.1. Chip Shot was more than nine lengths back of the lead at the halfway mark but started to make up ground after moving first over. She was side by side with Hill Of A Diva as they passed the three-quarter pole in 1:28 and took over the lead entering the final stretch. The Mission Accepted filly was unchallenged the rest of the way, scoring her third win of the season. Til The End As (Dan Noble), a winner in the second leg and the 4-5 betting favorite, was four lengths back in second, and Charlotte Elise (Trevor Smith) was third. Chip Shot is owned by John Schlabach and Walnut View Farm.

In Range fillies She’s In and Lynn Range won the second and third divisions, respectively.

She’s In (Tyler Angus) won as a 50-1 longshot, crossing the line in a lifetime-best 1:59.3 for trainer Miles Wollam. Tomboy Strong (MacDonald) was a half-length back in second followed by Capturethephoto (Aaron Merriman) in third. She’s In left from post seven and was in fourth place at each of the first three calls with fractions of :29, 1:00, and 1:29. More than four lengths back of leader Wild As Her As (Noble) at the three-quarter pole, She’s In rallied on the outside down the stretch, showing a late burst of speed to edge Tomboy Strong at the line. Owned by Robert Kline, She’s In has two wins in four starts this season.

SHE’S IN REPLAY

Lynn Range (Emanuel Miller) won in wire-to-wire fashion, besting Readi Two (Sandy Beatty) by a half-length in a lifetime-best 1:59.2 with Madam President (Page) in third. She posted fractions of :28.4, 1:00.3, and 1:30.1 and held off a late charge on the outside from Readi Two, who was in fourth place entering the final stretch. Lynn Range is trained by Herman Hagerman for owners Hagerman Racing, Lucinda Belcher, and Martin Yoder. She has six wins in eight seasonal starts with $24,179 in earnings.

Sunday’s 16-race card also included a $20,500 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace. Page drove Craig Stein trainee Rockin Bambi to victory in 1:53.3. The 6-year-old Rockin Image mare has 32 wins and earnings of $279,485 in 95 lifetime starts.

The Buckeye Stallion Series for 2-year-old filly trotters continues with the fifth leg at Delaware on Sept. 15.
