Grove City, OH – The wait continues as the top two Ohio sophomore filly harness racing trotters find themselves in different divisions for leg two of the Ohio Sires Stakes on Friday, June 14 at Eldorado Scioto Downs.
Jurassic Hattie (Volstead), the winner in leg one, and Sugar Instead last year’s freshman trotting filly of the year in Ohio, highlight the two $65,000 divisions.
Jurassic Hattie is the even-money favorite for trainer Eric Nesselroad in the first division. The winner of all four starts this year will start from the number four post position. Brett Miller will drive Jurassic Hattie, an easy winner in the first leg as she romped to a five-length victory.
Justasiam AS is the second choice on the morning line at 3-1. Justasiam AS has hit the board in three of four starts for trainer Anette Lorentzon, winning a leg of the Buckeye Stallion Series. Tony Hall will drive Justasiam AS.
Sugar Instead (Volstead) will look for her fourth win in as many starts in the second division. She is trained by Virgil Morgan Jr. and will have Miller in the bike. Sugar Instead is the second choice at 2-1 behind the favorite, Iam Independent.
Iam Independent finished second to Jurassic Hattie in the first leg of the Ohio Sires Stakes. Chris Page will drive the 9-5 favorite for trainer Ron Burke.
Jurassic Hattie and Sugar Instead have met one time. That meeting was last July when Jurassic Hattie won the Next Generation at Eldorado Scioto Downs by three lengths.
The second leg of the Ohio Sires stakes for three-year-old trotting fillies is part of a 16-race card that includes five divisions of the Buckeye Stallion Series for three-year-old trotting colts.
