Hambletonian winner Karl (Tactical Landing) will not enter the Breeders Crown Three-year-old Colt Trot final this Saturday, as written by harness racing trainer Nancy Takter on Facebook today (Oct. 21).
Takter reported that the stallion, who was placed up to fifth in the elimination, scoped sick. She wrote that, after consulting with veterinarians, the decision was made in the best interests of the stallion’s health.
“This was a very sad decision to make but I know it was the right decision to make,” Takter wrote. “Karl has had an incredible career and has brought us all immense joy and excitement.”
The stallion, last year’s Two-year-old Trotter of the Year, will stand stud at Diamond Creek Farm in 2025. The deal was announced on Oct. 10, the week before the Breeders Crown eliminations. He is 18-for-23 in his career with more than $2.4 million in earnings. His victories include the Hambletonian, Breeders Crown, Valley Victory, Kindergarten Series Final,Ā and Kentucky Sires Stakes Final.
