The photo finish camera was needed to declare the winner of the $35,000 Fillies & Mares Invitational Handicap Pace Friday (May 17) at Yonkers Raceway.
The 7th race harness racing feature got underway with Karma Seelster (Sportswriter) and driver Austin Siegelman scooting right out to the early lead from the rail. Racine Bell (George Brennan) was able to grab the two-hole trip as they went by the opening quarter mile in :26.4.
They raced single file to the half mile in :55.2. Then in the backstretch, race favorite Silk Cloud A (Jordan Stratton) came first-over from third place, giving second-over cover to Golden Quest N (Tyler Buter) to the three-quarters in 1:23.
Karma Seelster kept the field at bay around the final turn and then in a two-horse race to the wire, Karma Seelster barely held off Silk Cloud A to win by a nose in 1:51.4. Lil De Rose (Pat Lachance) was third.
KARMA SEELSTER REPLAY
It was the second straight win and third of the year for Karma Seelster. The seven-year-old mare is trained by Andrew Adamczyk for owners Karen Hauver and the Shady Hill Racing Stable, paying $6.10 to win.
