Kat victorious in Northfield Open

Kat (He’s Watching, Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) won the $18,500 Fillies and Mares Open Handicap harness racing pace at Northfield Park on Saturday (Mar. 16).

Always Gonna B You (Aaron Merriman) took the early lead, followed by Kat in second. The Gypsy Queen Ir (Keith Kash Jr) was racing in third as they came to the first quarter mile in :27.1. As they passed the half mile in :57.1, Always Gonna B You had the lead by a length and a quarter.

Always Gonna B You still had the lead at the three-quarter mile in 1:25. Kat followed in second, with The Gypsy Queen Ir closing in from the outside in third.

As they made their way down the stretch, Kat rushed to the front from the inside to steal the victory in 1:54.2. Always Gonna B You got second and The Gypsy Queen Ir came in third.

Kat is a 7-year-old mare trained by Michael Burke for owners Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC. She paid $14.20 to win.
