Monticello, NY— Kj Hunter (Huntsville, Jim Taggart Jr) won the $6,500 harness racing Open pace at Monticello Raceway on Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 7).
The 4-5 favorite Daamericansky (Gregory Merton) took the early lead out of the gate. Kj Hunter was racing in second and Abuelita Hanover (Thomas Merton) was in third as they passed the first quarter mile in :28.2. Daamericansky was still in control as they passed the half mile in :57.2 and three-quarter mile in 1:25.4.
As they turned for home, Kj Hunter battled Daamericansky for the lead, crossing the wire first in 1:54.4. Daamericanky finished a head behind in second and Some Deal Hanover (Bruce Aldrich Jr) came in third.
Kj Hunter is a 4-year-old gelding trained by Gary Messenger for owners Scott Woogen and Brenda Messenger. He paid $4.90 to win.
