YONKERS, N.Y.— Joe Lee and Yogi Sheridan both powered from pocket trips to win their respective $13,100 harness racing divisions of the North American Amateur Drivers Association (NAADA) Trot at Yonkers Raceway on Thursday night (Oct. 23).

Yogi Sheridan

Lee bagged the first division with a closing-stride rally by Kameran Hanover in a 2:00.2 mile. He tracked speed of :28.3 and :59.2 carved by post-8 starter Wild Bill Kelso (driven by John Calabrese) until he faced a shuffle into the second turn when Muskingum (Yogi Sheridan) sprung to the lead. Kameran Hanover flushed outside and overtook Wild Bill Kelso as he tired out of the race all while Muskingum scooted three-lengths clear to three-quarters in 1:29.1. Lee steadily narrowed on the leader’s advantage through the last turn and in the stretch to notch a winning blow by a neck with Awol Hanover (Steven Reisenweaver), the longest shot on the board at 73-1, closing for third. I’m Out (Joe Faraldo), the 5-2 favorite, rallied from last for fourth.

KAMERAN HANOVER REPLAY

Jody Riedel trains Kameran Hanover, an 11-year-old stallion by Donato Hanover, for owner Charalambos Christoforou. He paid $10.90 to win.

Though he was caught at the finish in the first division, Yogi Sheridan found the winner’s circle in the other division when spurting clear with Show The Will for a 1:57.3 victory. Sheridan seated his charge behind pylon-starter and odds-on favorite Cal Miles N Shell (John Calabrese) as he coasted unfettered through fractions of :28.1, :58.4 and 1:27.2. Come crunch time off the bottom corner, Sheridan lifted Show The Will from his stalking spot and zipped away from Cal Miles N Shell to register a 3-1/4-length win going away. Ima Standup Guy (Joe Faraldo) gave chase in third, another five lengths behind, with Doo Wop Kid (Alan Schwartz) finishing fourth.

SHOW THE WILL REPLAY

Izzy Estrada trains Show The Will, a 6-year-old gelding by Possess The Will, for owner Estrada Racing LLC. He paid $9.38 to win.

NAADA action resumes next Thursday (Oct. 30) at Yonkers Raceway with the eighth preliminary of the club’s fall trotting series. First-race post time at Yonkers is 6:45 p.m. (EDT).
