Despite Covered Bridge, who has won 15 races so far this year, being the favorite, Leonidas A (Mach Three) captured the harness racing victory in the $36,000 Open Handicap pace at Yonkers Raceway on Monday evening (Oct. 2).
Whats Stanley Got A (Matt Kakaley) took the early lead out of the gate. As they passed the first quarter mile in :27, Leonidas A (Austin Siegelman) passed Whats Stanley Got A from the outside to steal the lead.
Leonidas A was racing in first by a length-and-a-quarter, with Whats Stanley Got A in the pocket in second. Sporty M Three (George Brennan) followed in third as they passed the half mile in :56.
As Leonidas A continued to lead the way, American Mercury (Brent Holland) started to move towards the front from the outside. They passed the three-quarter mile in 1:24.
Leonidas A took his lead all the way home, crossing the wire first in 1:51.4. Whats Stanley Got A finished in second. In a photo finish, Lou`s Sweetrevenge (Jim Marohn Jr) came in third.

Leonidas A, an 8-year-old gelding, is trained by Matthew Medeiros and owned by Jesmeral Stable. He paid $3.70 to win.
