Leonidas A (Mach Three) and harness racing driver Austin Siegelman proved to be too strong on the front end in capturing the $39,000 Open Pace at Yonkers Raceway Monday (Oct. 3) evening.
Starting from the rail in the 8th race feature, Leonidas A was sent right to the front by Siegelman and with last weekās winner None Bettor A (Matt Kakaley) sitting right on their back.
Leonidas A cut fractions of :27.3, :59 and 1:24.4 over the good track that had a one second allowance due to rain. By the three-quarters, Semi Tough (George Brennan) tried a first-over maneuver to no avail.
Holding the field at bay around the final turn, Leonidas A held the field at bay and went on to win by three quarters of a length in 1:52.2 with None Bettor A second and Ignatius A (Jim Marohn, Jr) third.
LEONIDAS A REPLAY
It was the ninth win this year for Leonidas A, who is trained by Steven Finkelstein for the Jesmeral Stable of Scarsdale, NY and paid $2.70 to win.
