It’s tonight or never for a few of the harness racing trotters and pacers depending on the Standardbred Retirement Foundation, (SRF), its donors, and volunteers to get them off the manifest to ship to a horrific end.
Progress has been made and fortunately, those in the Pennsylvania holding pen, where the majority of the Standardbreds we are working on are located, have given a bit more time, but the other pens with just a few horses will not. There is a 10 pm deadline.
What stands in the way of saving the lives of these tonight is a safe home for a few in Va., Md., and Tn., and $5,000 in donations. If we can get them safe before the night is over, we can pick up again tomorrow to help the others still desperate but with a little more time.
This is the last effort of 2021, and SRF asks to end the year with a stretch of the heart. It asks to please offer homes, and give the last gift of the year to save their lives. Let’s start 2022 off right.
Those highlighted in green on this list are being readied to load the slaughter trucks now. We must respond by 10 pm tonight as to whether we will take them.
Here is the list, also shown here.
