Lexington week second-best in history of the sale

Lexington, KY — The Lexington Selected Yearling Sale concluded Friday night (Oct. 4) at the Fasig-Tipton Pavilion with the five-day harness racing auction totaling $65.7 million for 911 horses, an average of $72,132. Both figures are the second-best in the history of the event.

The record for gross was set last year when 949 horses sold for $67.9 million. The record for average was established in 2022, at $73,690 for 886 horses.

Last year’s average was $71,566.

Eight yearlings sold for at least $100,000 on Friday, one more than each of the past two years. Leading the way was the trotting filly Spoil Me Silly, who was purchased by M & L Of Delaware for $160,000.

Spoil Me Silly, a daughter of Swan For All-Wishimaywishimight is a half-sister to multiple Ontario stakes winner R Liza. She was consigned and bred by Kentuckiana Farms. She is Indiana and Kentucky eligible.

Overall, the fifth session saw 140 horses sell for $4.67 million, an average of $33,369. Last year’s fifth session had 134 horses sell for $4.45 million, an average of $33,265.

Walner led all trotting sires in gross and average, with $8.93 million for 51 yearlings, an average of $175,216. Chapter Seven was second in both categories, with $7.58 million for 50 yearlings, an average of $151,620.

Captaintreacherous led all pacing sires in gross, with $3.86 million for 42 yearlings. Downbytheseaside was second, with $3.58 million for 45 yearlings. Bulldog Hanover led in average, at $98,000 for nine yearlings. Captaintreacherous was next, at $92,071.
