Lindy The Great (Crazed) had his last harness racing start on March 18 of this year. He did not fare well, finishing 8th in the $45,000 Open-Handicap Trot at The Meadowlands.
Now, this Friday, May 26, Lindy The Great, a career winner of $1,488,464 with a record of 1:51.1, will go under the auctioneer’s gavel at the 11th annual Mid-Ohio Memorial Trotting Sale in Mt. Hope, Ohio.
The stallion will begin a new career breeding Amish Roadhorses and maybe some Standardbred mares for the racetracks. He has the size, conformation and pedigree to become a valuable commodity. His semen was checked, and he is able to breed a full book.
But what happened to convince top harness racing driver Andy Miller and wife, trainer, Julie Miller, to send Lindy The Great to this sale, where on Friday there will be at least 10,000 people in attendance, mostly Amish.
āWe elected to enter Lindy The Great in the Mt. Hope sale on the advice of partner John Smucker,ā Julie Miller explained. āHe has a lot of experience with Roadsters. He felt it would be a great career for Lindy The Great.
āHe understands what type of individual it takes to be competitive in the industry,ā Julie added. āJohn believed that Lindyās attributes would be tailored for this discipline. So far, I believe he is right. We had had a lot of interest and buzz circulating around Lindy. Itās going to be exciting to see Lindy in the sale ring!ā
Lindy The Great sells as #25. All of the horses will be put on display Friday in the sales ring at 8:30 am. The sale begins at 1:00 pm and will be featured live on Facebook by Harnesslink.com and can be viewed by clicking here.

Lindy The Great is not the only top Standardbred selling on Friday.
#94 is Lagerfeld (Yankee Glide), who was an $800,000 winner on the racetrack, had a record of 1:53.2. The stallion is now age 10, but his breeding is impeccable as he is a full brother to standout racehorse and stallion Guccio p,4,1:51.1f ($1,021,809), who has sired 213 foals that have raced.
And if you were looking at the sale for a well-bred mare to take a chance on, then #20 Stonebridge Algebra (Kadabra) could be a great choice.
As a racehorse, Stonebridge Algebra did win a qualifying race in 2:00.1 and that is it. But take a look at who Stonebridge Algebra second dam is. Her name is Royal Bait (Royal Prestige) and she is the dam of one of the greatest trotting mares ever, Peaceful Way 4,1:51.4 ($2,746,240), who was a multiple Dan Patch and OāBrien award winning world champion and is in the Hall of Fame. There is even a full-page pedigree of this mare in the sales catalog on page 66.
This Fridayās sale is the biggest event of the year in the Amish community with no less than 10,000 people attending. The sale is loaded with the best roadhorse opportunities, and the prices brought for some of the outstanding horses is huge.
Just last year the sales topper was the stallion Lordy Lordy (Muscle Massive), who brought $1,375,000, the highest price ever paid for a roadhorse stallion.
