Both Mcmarkle Sparkle and Techys Angel A were the two longest shots on the tote board, each at 14-1, and finished heads apart in the $39,000 Mares Open Pace Thursday at Yonkers Raceway.
The fifth race co-feature started off with the 1/9 favorite Drama Act and driver George Brennan going to the early lead with Man Dontforget Me (Jason Bartlett) taking the two-hole spot to the first quarter in :27.2.
They raced single file to the half mile in :56.2 and to the three-quarters in 1:24.4. Then in a calvary charge down the stretch, Mcmarkle Sparkle and driver Daniel Dube closed the fastest of all to win by a head over Techys Angel A (Jim Marohn, Jr.) in 1:53.2. Man Dontforget Me was third by a half length and Drama Act fourth by less than a length.
MCMARKLE SPARKLE REPLAY
It was the fourth win this year for Mcmarkle Sparkle, a five-year-old mare by McArdle, trained by Scott Di Domenico for owner/breeder Laura Baker of Ohio. She paid $31.00 to win.
In the 10th race $39,000 Mares Open Handicap Trot, Hey Livvy ($4.70) and driver Jordan Stratton took an extra long first-over route in winning in a romp by three and one-half lengths in 1:54.4 over No Mas Drama (Tyler Buter) and Lady Jeter (George Brennan).
Lady Jeter was on the lead early with Kenziesky Hanover (Jason Bartlett) in the two-hole by the opening quarter in :28.1 and the half in :57.3. Going into the backstretch, Kenziesky Hanover went off-stride and clearing out of the way and from fifth place on the outside to first-over on the lead at the three-quarters in 1:26 was Stratton and Hey Livvy and they pulled away from the field.
HEY LIVVY REPLAY
It was the sixth win in twelve starts this year for Hey Livvy. The seven-year-old mare by Donato Hanover is trained by Jeff Gillis for co-owners Blue Chip Bloodstock, Trevor Henry, Ellen Ott and Jeff Gillis.
