Lucky Artist A (Artistic Fella) along with harness racing driver Baxten Boyd created their own luck as they just got up at the wire to win the $30,000 Fillies & Mares feature pace Friday (Feb. 10) at Yonkers Raceway.
The 8th race feature saw Boyd and Lucky Artist A go right to the lead from the start and then gave way to race favorite Trick Of The Light and driver Tyler Buter at the first quarter mile in :27.3.
Trick Of The Light then cut the mile to the half in :56.2 and that was when driver Dan Dube came first-over with Morning Has Broken who was then followed second-over by Uptown Hanover (Jason Bartlett) into the backstretch.
By the three-quarters in 1:24.2, Bartlett moved three-wide with Uptown Hanover but could not gain ground on the final turn as first-over Morning Has Broken began to fade.
That left just Trick Of The Light on the front end and Lucky Artist A left in the pocket to duke it out in the stretch. Boyd moved Lucky Artist A out to challenge, gaining ground with every stride and nailed Trick Of The Light at the wire to win by a neck in 1:52.4. Techys Angel A (Matt Kakaley) closed to be third.
LUCKY ARTIST A REPLAY
It was the first win in three starts this year for Lucky Artist A. The ten-year-old mare is trained by Ricky Bucci for Flatlands Racing of New York. She paid $9.70 to win.
