Cream Ridge, NJ – 1/6/2022 The Standardbred Retirement Foundation (SRF) is ‘Makinithappen’ (coincidentally the name of one of the latest horses helped) with its latest rescue effort, thanks to caring people like you!
This morning, while speaking with the folks at one of our quarantine facilities, we were delighted to hear about the latest update with āImbadnewsforyouā: “My kids have already been on her, she is so sweet! She follows me like a puppy! This little mare would be a keeper if we could.”
We were, also, updated on some of the other recent horses rescued and in our quarantine facilities:
-“Erle Dale N has only one good leg but he runs around like he hasn’t seen dirt in a while, and he has lots of personality!ā
-āEnoch looks rough but, he has clean legs and is 16 hands of sugar.ā
-āH F Gal is 24, it looks like life was good to her, I don’t know why anyone would take care of her then just “dump” her like this.ā
-āCalifornia Sun may have atrophy of her left side behind. She may have a dropped hip, but I know they race like that.ā
-āFlying West hasn’t improved; treatment hasn’t helped his enlarged leg and he still has a head tilt.ā
-āA Breachsomewhere is emaciated, and his fetlocks have had enough, his lymphangitis is terrible.ā
-āExpress Gal, Flip The Page, Revelator, are all sound, and Cherry Bomber, who had an eye injury looks so much better. This guy is hysterical, he flaps his lips non-stop!”
Tomorrow the veterinarian comes out again, and the blacksmith is scheduled. It will be a busy day here. The list shows who still needs a soft landing.
Initially, it was thought that $750 for each horse would be enough to cover shipping from the pen to quarantine, quarantine, and any medical and care expenses such as teeth and feet, coggins etc. for those with possible homes. Homes and fosters are most important.
If more kind homes and fosters generously step up, and some additional donations are provided, every horse will be safe. SRF is also asking for consideration of sponsorship just until rehabilitation, and homing is completed. Three hundred fifty dollars monthly would give another a chance.
The senior gelding is in such horrific condition and will need a few months at least to recover. He will need a place to live out his last few years, and a sponsor for his days is a gift he begs for.
The remaining horses have until late Friday, January 7, 2022, to secure homes and donations to keep from slaughter. The heartwarming help so far has given many a safe place to go, hay, grain, a clean stall, and a caring hand. SRF doesn’t want to let any load the slaughter truck.
