With a strong first-over move in the backstretch, Marloe Hanover (Captaintreacherous) was able grind it out against race favorite Alexa Skye in capturing the $27,000 Mares Open Pace at Miami Valley Raceway Thursday, February 2.
It was Alexa Skye and driver Tyler Smith who worked their way to the lead over Lee Loo (Sam Widger) by the opening quarter mile in :27.1. They raced single file to the half mile in :56.1.
When entering the backstretch, driver Brett Miller moved Marloe Hanover from third place going first-over with Sandy Sue (Trace Tetrick) following second-over. Alexa Skye still led as they passed the three-quarters in 1:24 with Marloe Hanover stalking on the outside.
As they started down the stretch, Marloe Hanover kept gaining ground on Alexa Skye and passed her by in deep stretch to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:51.4. Sandy Sue was third.
