Harness racing driver McGwire Sowers piloted four pacers to victory on Thursday at Monticello Raceway.
He made his first winner’s circle appearance after a victory aboard Make America Great, who pushed his nose past the wire first to complete a start-to-finish win. Jacob Zakrzewski trains the gelding, a five-year-old son of So Surreal for Lomangino Standardbreds. Keepamericagreat won the next race for the same connections but Michael Merton in the bike instead of Sowers.
MAKE AMERICA GREAT REPLAY
Sowers then uncorked a double in races six and seven, winning with two horses trained by his father, Philip Bo Sowers. Run Around John (by Deuce Seelster) led throughout in the sixth, scoring in 1:56.4, and Brimfield (by Rockin Image) followed suit with a similar effort in the seventh that was clocked in 1:56. Philip Bo Sowers owns the former and trains the latter for Joseph Pisarski.
Dry Ridge Ace rallied from fifth at three-quarters and four lengths back at the eighth pole to win the 10th race by a nose and give Sowers his grand slam. Anthony Regina conditions the four-year-old We Will See gelding for Regina Racing Stable LLC.
DRY RIDGE ACE REPLAY
Sowers is 46-for-334 this season and 531-for-3,579 all time.
Monticello Raceway’s schedule resumes on Monday, Sep. 20 at 12:10 p.m. A Fillies and Mares Open Pace highlights the seven-race day.
