East Rutherford, NJ – The Meadowlands’ looks to renew their partnership with the TV team at the New York Racing Association (NYRA) in 2024 after strong 2023 results.
“We had eight “America’s Day at the Races” said Jason Settlemoir, COO & GM at the Meadowlands Racetrack. “The viewership and resulting wagering figures certainly exceeded our expectations on those show days. Without Jeff Gural’s longstanding relationship with NYRA, especially his friendships with David O’Rourke and Marc Holliday, none of this would be possible. Gural has consistently said that being on TV and getting national exposure is a must for harness racing to be a viable sport. Gural puts his money where his mouth is and has been the main driving force behind harness racing returning to national television through NYRA.”
2023 America’s Day at the Races Meadowlands Broadcasts with Peak Viewership figures:
- 4/29: 73,000
- 5/19: 232,000 (FS1)
- 5/20: 51,000
- 7/1: 33,000
- 7/8: 50,000
- 7/15: 119,000 (FS1)
- 8/5: 1,343,000 (FOX)
- 9/8: 27,000
In 2024, the Meadowlands will look to increase the number of broadcasts to cover a majority of stakes nights.
“We had a positive discussion with Eric Donovan, the Senior Director of TV Broadcast Operations at NYRA, continued Settlemoir. “We are both in agreement about expanding our coverage for our Championship meet.”
Settlemoir went on to say, “One thing that would be great for 2024 is if New York would allow NYRA Bets to take our nighttime harness signal. That would really move the wagering needle for us.”
Once an agreement has been finalized, a full schedule of broadcasts on Fox Sports (FS1 & FS2) will be released.
