Melady’s Monet scored in the $45,000 Yonkers Raceway Open Handicap Trot on Saturday, the 27th time the 12-year-old iron horse has won the harness racing track’s top class.
He held the early lead after receiving marching orders from driver Jason Bartlett, but Hey Livvy (Jordan Stratton) relegated him to the pocket after passing the quarter mile pole in :28.2. Melady’s Monet occupied the pocket through :56.3 and 1:25 middle splits, swung to the outside on the far turn, and rolled by Hey Livvy for his 78th career victory in 1:54.3.
Hey Livvy held second over a late-closing Eye Ofa Tiger S (Matt Kakaley), who finished third. The win price was $11.20.
