LEBANON, OH. – Miami Valley Raceway has announced the addition of nine more late-closing events to spice up their March and April racing calendar. Dubbed the 'Legends Series', each of the events is named in memory of a deceased horseperson who made major long-term contributions to harness horse racing in southwest Ohio. The names were selected by a five-member committee from over 50 nominations that were received from current horsemen and patrons.
Honored with a series in their memory will be George "Red" Owens, Omar Hiteman, Robert J. "Skeeter" Brown, Herb Coven Jr., George Williams, Ray Paver Sr., Dr. Don Mossbarger, Tom Tharps and Dr. Dan Farwick.
The series will spotlight relatively green pacers (divided by sex) and trotters that are either non-winners of 2 pari-mutuel races or $15,000 lifetime, non-winners of 4 pari-mutuel races or $30,000 lifetime, or non-winners of 6 pari-mutuel races or $50,000 lifetime as of March 1, 2015.
Entry blanks for the 'Legends Series', as well as the annual James K. Hackett Memorial for three-year-old Ohio-sired pacers, are available at the Miami Valley race office, or can be downloaded from the track's website: www.miamivalleygaming.com via the 'Racing' and then 'Horsemens Info' tabs.
