Michigan Harness Horsemen’s Association scholarships

OKEMOS, Mich. – The Michigan Harness Horsemen’s Association (MHHA) is proud to announce the recipients of its 2024 scholarships, awarded to five exceptional students pursuing higher education. The scholarships, ranging from $3,750 to $500, recognize academic excellence, leadership, community service, financial need, and knowledge of the harness racing industry.

Tied First-Place Scholarships: 
Drew Thacker of Howell and Ty Goodell of Jackson each received a $3,750 scholarship. Drew is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Michigan State University, and Ty is studying Finance at Baker College. Both recipients have demonstrated outstanding commitment to their education and communities. Drew’s application highlighted his contributions toward his own education costs and community volunteerism, while Ty’s was supported by glowing recommendations from his high school teachers and basketball coach, who praised his work ethic and academic achievements.

Third-Place Scholarship: 
Jessica Bennett of Fremont was awarded a $1,200 scholarship. Jessica is currently pursuing an associate in arts with a concentration in Sports Management from Jackson College. Her application was bolstered by her achievements as an honor roll student, student leader, and standout athlete, earning high praise from her varsity basketball coach for her hard work and community involvement.

Fourth-Place Scholarship: 
Samantha Stanke of Charlotte received an $800 scholarship. Samantha is studying Crop and Soil Sciences at Michigan State University. Her application was strongly supported by her role as the 2023-2024 Michigan FFA State Reporter, with a recommendation from Tiffany Rogers-Randolph, Ph.D., who commended Samantha’s dedication to agricultural advocacy and education.

Fifth-Place Scholarship: 
Brylee Boyd of Grand Rapids was awarded a $500 scholarship. Brylee is pursuing a Master of Arts in Counseling with a focus on Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Central Michigan University. Her application stood out due to her leadership roles at Aquinas College Advantage Center, where she managed various projects, earning high praise from her director for her professionalism and positive attitude.

The MHHA is honored to support these young scholars as they continue their educational journeys and contribute to their communities and the harness racing industry.
